The Council
What we do
Ystradgynlais Town Council has clearly defined responsibilities and roles.
Here is a summary of the main areas of focus for the Council:
Parks and Green Spaces: YTC own and are responsible for Coronation Park, Diamond Park, Chinese Gardens and some other smaller green spaces.
Footpaths: YTC is responsible for a number of paths with Powys County Council responsible for others and for all pavements.
Playing Fields: YTC owns the Tick Tock Bowls and supports the Welfare Grounds Association, Penrhos Youth Club and others.
Welfare Halls and Community Buildings: YTC owns the Ystradgynlais Miners Welfare Hall and provides grants and support to Abercrave and Cwmtwrch Miners Welfare Halls as well as the Penrhos Community Centre and the Ystradgynlais Public Toilets.
Community Grants (Up to £500 for grass roots organisations): YTC provides small grants to a wide range of community organisations that work in and support our community.
Community events: YTC supports Summer and Christmas events as well as a St David’s Day Parade.
Community enhancements (eg: Christmas lights / flowers planters): YTC provides Christmas lights and grants to groups for flowers, Christmas trees etc.
Gorof Cemetery: YTC owns, maintains and manages The Gorof Cemetery.
Planning: YTC is a statutory consultee on planning matters and provides observations to Powys County Council when asked, but we do not make planning decisions.
We welcome input and concerns regarding these and other areas. We will assist where we can and signpost to the most appropriate resources if the matter falls beyond our remit.
Powys County Council have direct control and responsibility for Roads, Parking, Pavements and Verges; Schools and Education; Bins, Rubbish and Recycling; Planning and Building Control; and Social Care.
